How to Investigate Suspects
Investigate suspects in The Mermaid Mask using the suspicion button, evidence presentation UI, Opportunity/Motive/Means tracks, and interview best practices.
Mid-game, The Mermaid Mask unlocks formal suspect investigation via notebook suspicion tab—accessed by suspicion button icon or Tab cycle. Here Grimoire presents inventory evidence to eight voiced suspects, filling Opportunity, Motive, and Means meters tracked on Suspicion Tracker. System avoids binary guilt flags until finale; instead it documents contradictions supporting Illusion Theatre reconstruction.
Evidence Presentation Flow
Select suspect portrait → choose dialogue topic → drag evidence from tray onto highlighted drop zone. Valid pairings advance suspicion bars and unlock follow-up questions; invalid pairings produce Spears warning without penalty. Some evidence works on multiple suspects sequentially—notebook marks consumed versus reusable status. Tier-gated topics require minimum bar fill before appearing.
Suspicion Button and Finale
Suspicion button pulses when new cross-suspect contradiction detected—often after puzzles like compass pinboard or interviews elsewhere. Finale reconstruction requires minimum global progress; premature accusation UI stays locked with Grimoire monologue. Follow crew interviews walkthrough for order; consult individual suspect pages for evidence pairing cheat sheets without spoilers.
- Open suspicion tab after Act Two milestone cutscene.
- Drag evidence only onto highlighted topic zones.
- Watch Opportunity/Motive/Means separately—high Means ≠ killer alone.
- Suspicion button pulse indicates new actionable contradiction.
- Use tracker wiki tool to plan remaining presentations.
