Captain's Cabin Walkthrough
Walkthrough for Captain Magnus Mortuga's cabin in The Mermaid Mask: Glass Eyeball key, broken radio, Her painting, and Model Town puzzle.
Captain Mortuga's personal cabin sits at the upper-left of the submarine map—initially sealed until the Glass Eyeball from the Child's Room wooden chest is presented to crew and recognized as a door key. Into Indie Games and KosGuides document the interior sweep: broken handheld radio in the peeking chest, ship-in-a-bottle on the desk, table bell, and the unsettling painting titled Her that triggers tier-two dialogue with Sinthia. Rotating the canvas circle unlocks the Captain's Quarters and the Model Town diorama chest on the right.
Unlock Checklist
- Solve Child's Room wooden chest and obtain Glass Eyeball inspectable.
- Present the eyeball during crew interviews until its key function is acknowledged—commonly via Zephyr or Symmetry.
- Select Glass Eyeball at the cabin door map node and push to release the physical key.
- Inspect radio, bell, ship-in-a-bottle, and Her painting before leaving—each feeds Case File entries.

Her Painting & Model Town
Ask Sinthia about the HER painting clue after your first cabin sweep, then return to rotate the circle at the top of the canvas. The unlocked Captain's Quarters contain the Model Town diorama puzzle—a miniature Silkwirm layout used later alongside compass pinboard navigation threads. Do not confuse this early cabin with the late-game magnetic needle pinboard; compass headings (045, 135, 225, 315) activate only after collecting needles from Control Room preview, Cargo Hold, Airlock Grotto, and Engine Room per our compass pinboard guide.
The broken radio and bell create new interview branches for multiple suspects—carry them back through Evidence Checklist before mid-campaign accusations. Game Informer's July 14 review highlights how Mortuga's cabin personal effects reinforce the "earn your clues" design without gating progression behind obscure pixel hunts.
